Wanted: Corvette enthusiast to restore vintage '54 model

Calling on all Vette-heads: Looking for a dream restoration job?

A vintage 1954 Chevrolet Corvette went on the auction block at Hagerty at the end of May. It's a beat-up and bruised but extremely rare car "with an incredible history and tremendous restoration potential," according to the auction block website posting.

Asking price for the Lynchburg, VA car: $45,000 U.S.

According to Hagerty, the car was kept in a garage in California and bought decades ago "by a dedicated enthusiast who intended to complete a full restoration." That owner carefully sourced and picked up a lot of parts for the car but could not complete the work for health reasons.

The car has been in storage since then and awaits its next owner and the completion of the restoration.

The car has a 1955 hard top but also has a convertible frame. It has many rechromed trim pieces, a brand new red and white steering wheel inside the "completely blank slate" interior, and authentic patina on the body over the years.

"As the first full-production year of America's sports car, the 1954 Corvette represents an important chapter in Chevrolet history," Hagerty says. "With only 3,640 produced and surviving examples becoming increasingly difficult to find, early C1 Corvette projects remain highly sought after by collectors and restorers alike."
