Project Snowball' roars to life
By Claudio D'Andrea
Barry picked up a 1990 Corvette convertible on Facebook's Marketplace for a steal -- $1,250 U.S. -- and figured it would take a little bit of work and time to get her on the road.
A few body panels replaced, a little bit of joy riding then reselling the car, the Long Beach, California car buff thought.
The little white Corvette turned into 'Project Snowball,' he says. He had to replace the hood and fix the exhaust, welded some new pipes and worked on the idling.
A month later in October 2025, Barry revved up the engine and a satisfying roar echoed back to him.
Barry, who chronicles his work on the YouTube channel No Bolts Left Behind, said the car was a "really good bargain" when he picked it up and first posted about his find on Sept. 14. "You can't get a Toyota for that," he said.
He found the hood of another 1990 Corvette convertible in a junkyard to replace the one that had three holes in it and started body work. The hood was a different shade of white so he spray-painted it to match the rest of the car.
After fixing some electronics and the exhaust, the car still idled rough so he did a vacuum leak test and found a problem with one valve. After fixing it, he fired up the car and felt like he was ready for the races.
Barry, who has posted other car restoration work on his YouTube site including a 1974 convertible Corvette, said he's thinking of doing an LS V8 engine swap on the '90 Vette but considers it complete for now. He also isn't sure yet about putting the car up for sale.
"I plan on keeping it for now."
'Project Snowball' can be found on Barry's YouTube channel, along with the '74 Corvette and other vehicles he's restored.
