Door main weatherstripping, also called door mains, are subject to wear every time the doors are opened and closed. It's no wonder that they are usually the first piece of weatherstrip to wear out. The original GM weatherstrip did a fine job of sealing, but often split or cracked prematurely. Made of synthetic foam rubber called ethylene propylene diene monomer or EPDM, it is far more durable than the original and its softness allows you to always close your doors easily. Some aftermarket companies make their door mains too hard, forcing the doorframe to bend because the weatherstrip doesn't compress enough along the top where it contacts the body. That's not a problem with this door main weatherstrip.
